Faulkner County authorities are looking for a man who stole a sheriff's deputy's patrol car after leading the lawman on a chase early Tuesday morning.

Authorities said it happened about 2 a.m., when the deputy tried to stop a vehicle near Arkansas 286 and Caney Creek Road just east of Conway. It wasn't immediately clear why the deputy was attempting to pull over the vehicle.

The Faulkner County sheriff's office said the driver, who was later identified as 44-year-old Tyler J. Beene, refused to stop and led the deputy on a chase for about a mile before crashing near Caney Creek Road and Amity Road.

The deputy "tried to engage the suspect" at the crash scene, the sheriff's office said, but Beene took the deputy's weapon during an ensuing struggle. Beene then got in the deputy's patrol vehicle and fled the area with its lights and siren activated, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

The vehicle was found less than an hour later on Betty Lane. Beene was not there.

The sheriff's office said authorities set up a perimeter in the area and warned that Beene should be considered "armed and dangerous."
